About Us

A Safe, Stimulating, and Nurturing Experience at the UU World of Children

We offer a safe, stimulating and nurturing experience at the UU World of Children. Our program was started in September 1997 because of our commitment to diversity and the Montessori philosophy of teaching for the Greenville community.

  • Children ages 3 and up are welcome at the UU World of Children, our students learn in a mixed age environment, where they often teach each other.

  • *Healthy snacks are served twice a day, and beverages (milk or water) are supplied.

  • Children bring their own lunches.

  • Children must be completely independent when using the bathroom before attending The UU World of Children.

  • The UU World of Children admits applicants without regard to race, creed, gender or economic status.

  • All non-kindergarten children take a nap in the afternoon.

  • We are in a new space specifically designed for our school.

“I call a child of three years a man because I see his merits instead of his size. He has acquired a great degree of independence and can do many things for himself – he can eat, speak, and walk without assistance.”

— Maria Montessori · The 1946 London Lectures

Montessori Education

Maria Montessori was born in Italy on August 31, 1870. She was a physician and educator. Her educational method, which is still in use today in many public and private schools throughout the world, is a method of education based on hands-on learning, self-directed activity, and play in a collaborative environment. In a Montessori classroom, children engage and facilitate their learning with creative choices. The classroom culture and highly trained teacher(s) offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.
